Wake the kids, phone the neighbors, “the OC’s” Greg Hardesty is officially running in the 2008 Coastal Challenge, Route of Fire; a six day stage race held in Costa Rica on Jan
27th thru Feb 2nd. Having never ventured further than Irvine, from his salon quality blow-dryer, following Greg’s escapades will be entertaining. Assuming the Coastal Challenge referred to a road rally between a Newport Beach Starbucks and a Laguna Beach Juice it Up, Greg was all smiles registering for this Central America endurance event. Upon realizing The Coastal Challenge 225k (140 miles) is an ultra event in Costa Rica, his response was clean and simple; Did they say hair net or mosquito net?
TheRunDown.net will be diligently covering Greg’s training progress with an updated weekly blog on his training, random thoughts and physical effort. As the Coastal Challenge Route of Fire approaches, coverage will increase and culminate with day-by-day stage reports during the actual race. Find out what it’s like to share an e-Gel with an iguana or run over a volcano (relax Greg, it’s just a big curling iron).

Goldy,
I heard the spiders at Coastal are the size of BIRDS!!
You should do the 6-day – 125 mile transrockies challenge http://www.transrockies.com/
for a warm up for the Coastal Challenge.
We can style each others hair after we run.

Well, since I am reading this blog entry from Costa Rica right now, I figured I *had* to comment. While I understand that the race is in the “dry” season and in the drier north part of the country, I still don’t think they have the same idea of dry that we do in California. Enjoy the race. Pura vida!
