In late 2006, The Run Down was launched to illustrate the fun, social and humorous side of trail running, ultra-marathon training and racing. Our goal is to promote ultra events, the podium elite, middle & back-of-the-pack participants, race directors and event volunteers. Our re-caps are written to entertain but they also provide excellent detail to assist entrants in evaluating potential events. We diligently document the human side and social nature of these endurance events to expose the real story.
The Run Down is unique in that our writers are also serious ultra competitors and while we don’t finish in the top 3, we’re normally somewhere in the top 15. Our crafty journalists race in 90% of the events we editorially cover.
The Run Down will be adding more content very soon in the form of Elite Runner profiles (what makes them tick) and other trail/ultra topics. Email us at therundown@cox.net if you feel there is an event, person or topic we should definitely look into. If we’re at your next endurance event, introduce yourself!

Category: ABOUT US

Chaz,
There was a time when our trail shoe selection was either a pair of low cut Keds or hiking boots. Our electrolyte replacement was tap water with salt and sugar… and , of course, beer.
Our ‘cool max’ was the t-shirt we wrapped around our waist or draped around our neck. What we couldn’t buy we made. The lining of my first ‘running’ shorts was a pair of my former wifes nylon undies (sans bow) I was a lot thinner in those days… And, as I mentioned before – our hydration packs consisted of syrup bottles hanging on a belt.
This is what it was like when “The Old Goats” started running OC trails!
Can you imagine running Modjeska Grade without worrying about kamakazi downhill Mountain bikers. Can you imagine the San Juan Trail without ruts. Can you imagine what it was like to run alone in Woods Canyon on narrow cowpaths. Can you imagine doing it in $15.00 shoes?
